For coders
Write, run, save and share code with nothing to install.
Run something
- Open the IDE. The rail's New icon picks a language; each language keeps its own workspace in your browser.
- Type, then press Execute or Ctrl+Enter. Execute runs the active tab and picks the language from its extension.
- Read compiler messages, stdout, stderr, exit code and timing in the I/O pane. The Log tab keeps every run.
Input
Type standard input in the Input box; it is sent in full when the program starts. Programs are not interactive.
Markup files
HTML, XML, SVG and the like cannot be run, but they are edited properly: the right highlighting by extension (also CSS, JSON, Markdown, YAML), the closing tag typed for you when you finish an opening tag (<div> gives <div>|</div>; void elements such as <br> and <img> are left alone), </ completed with the innermost open tag, and, after <, the tags already used in the file offered first, most used on top. In HTML files Monaco's own standard-tag completion runs alongside.
Several files and folders
Add files with + in the tab strip or files panel. Names may contain folders (pkg/util.py). Drag files between folders in the panel. All files are sent with a run, so imports between them work.
Save and share
Save as project gives your workspace a URL. See Projects. Share on the rail copies a link; for an unsaved workspace the code is packed into the link itself.
Flare Desktop
The same IDE in a window on your own computer, for when the website cannot run code or you want to run with the languages you already have installed. Download it; the Execute button then uses the python3, node, gcc, go, java … on your PATH, and tells you which program to install when one is missing. Programs run as you, without a sandbox, with the usual time and output limits. Drafts are kept per language on that computer; accounts, saved projects, sharing, collaboration and GitHub stay on the website.
Completion and errors as you type
Languages with a server show live diagnostics, hover and completion; the footer names the server. See Language servers.
